FreeHer Giving Tuesday 2022

The National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls is committed to abolishing incarceration of women and girls, and we believe...

  • Prisons will never be the place for a woman or girl to heal and advance her life.

  • Prisons often cause further social and economic harm and do not increase public safety.

  • The prison experience increases trauma in women and, if they are mothers, to the children, they are separated from.

  • The prison system deepens poverty in the individual lives of incarcerated people and the overall economic stability of their communities.

  • The current criminal legal system is a failed system and needs to be dismantled.

  • We have what different looks like and how to get there.

We know we can end incarceration of women and girls, and we have created a base-building theory of change, including hyper-local organizing, political education, and our national FreeHer campaign, to get us there, and with your help, we will.
